Student Spotlight: Thomas L's solo "South Street Sterno"

At grooveFEST, Thomas L played an original solo piece that he wrote for a recent school event. He workshopped this piece for a few weeks at the studio, and every time he came in with a new rhythmic idea, or a new transition to get from point A to point B.

There are several concepts at work here:

  1. Develop a motif that you can use to frame the piece for the audience;

  2. Develop variations on that motif (tempo or meter changes, etc.); and

  3. Develop a narrative arc for the piece that gives the listener a sense of beginning, middle and end; and - most importantly;

  4. HAVE FUN WITH IT!!

Thomas certainly did all of those here. Enjoy!
