grooveLIVE Recap: the Michael Kaplan Superband

This past Friday, the studio had the pleasure of presenting the Michael Kaplan Superband live at Dew Point Brewing Company in Yorklyn, DE. We want to thank Dew Point for their hospitality.

Michael’s band turned in a terrific performance of his original compositions. Original music performed at a high level by some terrific improvisers. It was a great night.

You may be wondering why the studio is spending resources on live events. The answer is simple: to elevate the live music scene in the region. High quality live music, especially original music, only happens when there are patrons to sponsor the artist, and audience to attend the event and support the venue (i.e. buy food and drinks). Thank you to our friends who came out and spent money at Dew Point on Friday. There has to be some economic power behind the artist.

We also want to support original composers and performers, otherwise the music ecosystem continues sink to the lowest common denominator (e.g., tribute bands). The live scene would be littered with musicians who are more concerned with impersonating someone else than being artistically valid in their own right. Someone has to defend the art form.

Below are some photos from a great evening.
