New Music Alert!

One of the objectives for our more experienced members is to get out of the practice room and use their creativity on the drumset to play gigs and make records.  There's a new single out from Dan Ciccone's band, Cicco: Dark Tea.  Click below to check it out.  Dan is a long time member of the studio and is out there making musical things happen.

The Odd Time Playlist

In my discussions with many of you throughout the last few weeks, we have addressed quite a few songs that are in odd time signatures (i.e. not in 4/4 or 2/4 time). I started a playlist of songs that I think are worth your time. One of the characteristics of these songs is that they don’t feel like they are in 5 or 7 or 13. That is the mark of skillful songwriting and arranging.

What songs would YOU add to this list? I want to hear from you. Email me here.

Jazz Trio Workshop Spotlight: Alex Zurl

The next spotlight from our recent Jazz Trio Workshop is on Alex Zurl.

Earlier this month, I brought in two professionals: Jeff Knoettner (Piano) and Rob Swanson (Bass) to perform with some of the studio's members. Total immersion in playing at a professional level - there is no way to simulate it - so we learn by DOING. Education by action.

Here, Alex Zurl performs the classic "My Girl", staying deep in the pocket and serving the song.

TMF Organ Trio now available!

You can now stream the entire new album by Tuk Mattock Fredericks on Bandcamp.com. There are also hi-resolution versions available for sale which you can download to your device. We had a blast making this record, and it features some terrific playing. You can stream it below:

One more way grooveKSQ can help young musicians advance their craft is by providing professional video and audio recording services in house!

The studio upgrades were designed to both facilitate distance learning and provide young musicians with a way to record themselves for solo performances or collaborations with other performers. grooveKSQ can now work on Protools (or any other DAW) based projects remotely.

Student Spotlight: Meet Bob

Student Spotlight: Meet Bob

One thing that surprises people about grooveKSQ is that our students aren’t just kids or high school students. In fact, quite a few adults and experienced players drop in to work on specific skills, or have a chops session (basically an intense rudimental workout to improve speed/dexterity), or just play double drums with me and have fun.

Meet Bob.
